Welcome to the Lismore Diocese
Official WYD Pilgrimage
Young people from the Diocese of Lismore have participated in World Youth Day in Toronto, Cologne, and Sydney and we are well on the way to building our team for Madrid 2011. This will be our largest international pilgrimage so far, with our experience of the great event in Sydney driving our enthusiasm towards the pilgrimage to Spain. When our Lord said that He had come to cast fire on the earth, I believe a dramatic modern sign of that fire is in the World Youth Days, and the spreading movements of witness by Catholic youth in the Church and secular society.
The Church is young, the Church is alive, and the faith of Christ fires young hearts and lives minds now as powerfully as it has ever done. So I encourage you to make the decision soon, and I look forward to joining our group, representing parishes from the Hastings to the Tweed, for another memorable experience of Christ among us in our Pope, in the great WYD celebrations, and in our companions. Viva Cristo Rey!

World Youth Day in Madrid will provide the young people of the Archdiocese of Sydney with the opportunity to continue to live the extraordinary experience we had in Sydney in July 2008. We invited the youth of the world to join us and Pope Benedict in Sydney. Now we will join the youth of the world responding to the invitation of Pope Benedict to meet with him in Madrid, Spain, in August 2011.
On Palm Sunday in St Peter’s Square 2009, youth representatives from Australia formally handed over the World Youth Day Cross and Icon to youth representatives from Spain.
It concluded what was a great privilege for the Church here in Australia.
Now I invite you to join with young people from every diocese in Australia who will be pilgrims to Spain to attend the World Youth Day in Madrid in August 2011.
